It should go without saying that the cheapest way to drive traffic to a blog is to get thousands of organic visitors to your pages.
After all, organic traffic means a free one that won’t cost you a cent.
To achieve that, you mostly need to learn how to rank your content on the first pages of the search engines – Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Unfortunately, that’s not the easiest thing to do in your early blogging days when your site is a couple of months old.
The good news is – you can do other things to attract more readers without paying anything at all.
Maybe I’m moving a bit too fast, so let’s start from the beginning!
Free Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Website – Organic Traffic Methods That Still Work
Quite frankly, the last thing I want to do is repeat the same thing over and over again.
That’s why I’m going to say it for the last time in this article:
None of the strategies for increasing blog traffic you’re about to read will cost you anything other than time and effort.

1) Implement Search Engine Optimization (SEO) From Day 1
Actually, this one is a deal-breaker.
As I’ve already mentioned, the largest sources of organic traffic to any blog are the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo).
Contrary to the newbie blogger’s belief system, they won’t just start sending you tons of visitors simply because your website exists.
If you want your content to rank high, you’ll have to optimize it properly.
Make no mistake – if you don’t understand how SEO works and how to use it to the fullest of its abilities, your organic traffic won’t get off the ground.
With that said, mastering SEO is a long, complicated, and overwhelming process.
Many resources, tutorials, and courses can teach you a lot about search engine optimization.
Personally, I took this free blogging training course, and I can’t recommend it enough.
2) Learn How To Do Keyword Research
Not doing proper keyword research is one of the most common blogging mistakes almost every newbie makes.
Here is the deal:
In order to rank on Google, you need to carefully research the word or a phrase you plan to target.
Of course, being smart with the keywords you choose doesn’t guarantee that you’ll grab the top spot, but it’s a good start.
Some keywords are easier to rank for than others. And even if you constantly go for the less competitive ones, not all of your content will reach Google’s first page.
Still, doing keyword research the right way will definitely improve the odds of that happening.
3) Target Long-Tail Keywords
To sum up, the short-tail keywords (also called head keywords) have the highest search volume online.
Meaning, if you manage to rank for such a keyword, you’ll never be short on free traffic.
However, they also happen to be the most difficult keywords to rank for online.
Unless your site already has high DA (Domain Authority), thousands of backlinks, and Google’s trust, you should target long-tail keywords.
They can bring you some organic traffic until your website increases its presence online. A bit of traffic is better than no traffic at all!
Ultimately, the long-tail keywords have a high conversion rate.
Ranking for such keywords will increase your chance to make money even when your audience is still relatively small.

But that won’t make any difference if you’re refusing to give your readers what they want.

7) Update Your Content Regularly
Let me ask you, what’s your attitude towards older content?
Are you falling in the category of bloggers who set and forget?

Google doesn’t hide the fact that prefers fresh content.
Meaning, the search engine would very much like to show its users content that is up to date.
With that said, there is a simple way to satisfy Google. And once that happens, it will affect your rankings and traffic in a positive way.

- See which are your top 10 articles
- Update them one by one
To clarify, by update, I mean update – don’t just mess around!
Make those posts longer, include more images, interlink them with other relevant content, etc.

First thing first, let’s make sure that there will be no confusion here:
Updating your work is not enough.
Sooner or later, your articles will become old content.
I mean, if your first blog post goes back years, it’s not really that fresh anymore, is it?
OK, so how can you deal with that?
Well, you should republish your content with a new publishing date.
Before you do that, though, you’ll have to make sure that your old article will really become new:
You should post new screenshots, add more subheadings, refresh the meta description – you get the idea.
Keep in mind – the change to your content has to be remarkable if you want this strategy to work.
Personally, that’s what I’m doing right now on this website.

Infographics are invaluable since they will make your site look like an authority in its field, even if it’s a few months old.

The infographics are a real magnet for backlinks.
At least, they will be if they are high-quality.
So, if you don’t have the necessary experience or skills to create infographics, you should hire a professional to do them for you.
10) Do Round-Up Posts
Basically, not all of your blog topics will be suitable for a round-up article.
Even more, it’s not a great idea to focus solely on this form of content, in my opinion.
But now and then, you should do a round-up post as a part of your blogging strategy.
Round-up articles have the potential to skyrocket your traffic and to send you visitors for a long time.
Once your post is ready (and even before that), reach out to the brands you mention in your list.
If they like your work, they will share it with their audience and may link back to your article.
11) Outreach To Brands
Most bloggers use affiliate marketing to monetize their sites.
You probably have at least a couple of product reviews up until now.
Are you reaching the companies that you’re recommending to your readers?

A lot of bloggers who sell courses place testimonials on their homepage/landing page.

Considering the testimonials are beneficial for both parties involved, your testimonial will be published with a link back to your blog.

13) Leave Comments On Other Blogs
Nowadays, commenting on fellow bloggers’ sites is one of the most underrated free ways to drive traffic to your website.
I find it hard to believe – it doesn’t take a lot of time to read an article and write down your thoughts about it.
To make sure that your comment will make it through, it better be truthful and adds value to the topic.
Stuff like “Thanks, great post” won’t ever work in your traffic’s favor!
14) Do Guest Blogging
Quite frankly, it’s understandable if you haven’t had the time for guest blogging yet.
There is always so much to do on your site – who has the hours to write for somebody else?
While that’s normal, maybe you should try harder and make some room in your day.
If you manage to secure a guest blogging spot on a site that has decent traffic, that will benefit your website in the long run.
The other way around works too – be open to people who express a desire to write for your blog.
15) Create YouTube Videos
Yes, I’ll be talking about repurposing content:
You’ll take one form of content (blog post) and turn it into a different one (video).
With the increase in popularity of Social Media in the last decade, people are more and more about visuals.
Currently, they very much prefer to watch a tutorial than to read about it.
So, there is no earthly reason why you shouldn’t use YouTube to expand your organic reach even further.
Besides, YouTube is a search engine, and you should take advantage of that!
16) Post On Reddit
Just to be clear, posting on Reddit might take a while, but it’s so worth it:
It has an incredible potential to bring an insane amount of traffic to your blog.
Do you want to see that happening?
Here are a couple of points to keep in mind:
- Always provide value: Posting a link for the sake of posting won’t get you anywhere.
- Don’t spam: Spamming is the fastest way to get banned from the platform.
- Post your best piece of content: The people on Reddit won’t give you the time of the day for anything less than 2,000 words.
17) Post On LinkedIn
In my opinion, LinkedIn provides one of the most overlooked free ways to drive traffic to your website.
Maybe most people still believe that the platform is mainly for job opportunities, and that’s no longer the case.
Look closely to see that 80% of its users belong to some kind of group.
Subsequently, if you do a bit of research, you can easily find a group that has an interest in the type of content you’re producing.
Put some effort to engage that audience, and it will find its way to your blog!
18) Post On Medium
A lot of folks are going in that direction – and I think that you should seriously consider joining them.
Personally, I love spending time reading Medium as well – tons of awesome content comes on its pages daily.
But if you want to use it strictly as a source of free traffic, it’s not that difficult to do it:
Create and post a high-quality article that contains a link to a primary post on your site, and that’s it.
19) Answer Questions On Quora
Similar to Reddit, Quora doesn’t appreciate spammers.
The only way to drive traffic from this platform is to really help its users.
Find the time to answer questions within your expertise.
While doing so, link a keyword to a blog post, and you’ll get your traffic if the readers find your content useful.
Again, Quora won’t work if your answers are vague and generic, so keep that in mind.
20) Use Pinterest
Finally, it’s time to talk about my favorite source of traffic!
In short, if you’re not using Pinterest to expand your audience, you’re doing it all wrong.
Firstly, because you can start getting page views pretty fast – that’s how awesome Pinterest is.
Secondly, the platform is a search engine – and your content can rank on it much easier than on Google.
Lastly, a well-designed and correctly keyworded pin has the power to bring you traffic for years to come!
21) Utilize Email Marketing
Doing email marketing is one of the easiest free ways to drive traffic to your website.
All you need to see instant traffic is to send an email to your list.
Of course, that will be if you’re working on building an email list in the first place.
By the way, if you don’t look at email marketing as a priority, you’re in the wrong business.
Every blogger/affiliate/marketer knows that the money is in the list!
22) Create A Free Online Course
OK, this may not be suitable for you if you’re a newbie blogger.
But if you have experience already, creating a free online course shouldn’t be that hard to achieve.
People love free stuff, especially if it brings enormous value to the table.
And they will appreciate you if deliver big time!
While you work on your free course, don’t forget to add links that will send your readers back to relevant content on your site.
23) Make Your Blog Mobile Responsive
It’s not a secret that the majority of Internet users are accessing the web through their mobile devices.
So you have to make sure that your blog won’t affect their experience.
The fastest way to lose tons of traffic is to install a website theme that is not mobile responsive.
Maybe it’s hard to believe, but a lot of bloggers don’t take that into consideration!

Honestly, I shouldn’t even have to mention the importance of a fast-loading webpage.
Above all, a slow website will negatively impact your traffic in a way not many other factors can.
Unless your blog loads in a couple of seconds, don’t expect to enjoy thousands of page views.
There are a lot of things you can do to improve your site speed.
For instance, optimize your images, keep the number of plugins down, have a superb blog hosting service, etc.
25) Write A Catchy Headline
As usual, I’m saving my best to be the last!
Long story short, it doesn’t matter if you have the best content ever.
Not many people will get to read it unless it starts with a clickbait.
Before you even begin typing your new article, you’ll need to come up with an inciting headline first.
Power words, pain points, curiosity – use them to draw massive online attention.
In my opinion, writing a powerful headline is an art of its own.
Keep practicing, and you’ll master it eventually!
