Then I realized that I'll have to let my daydreaming go and focus on reality.
And the reality of traffic generation is kind of a bad news-good news situation:
There may not be thousands of strategies to drive free traffic to your blog, but there are some that actually work!
Before we begin a conversation about the free ways to drive traffic to your website, let's look at the big picture for a minute.
No matter how far you're into the blogging journey, you probably already know:
Above all, there are only 2 sources of blog traffic in general - free and paid one.
Both of them are quite effective and have the potential to bring thousands of page views to your blog every day.
With that being said, unless you're an advanced blogger with extensive marketing experience, buying traffic for website is not the smartest move for your business.
Firstly, because using paid ads requires a profound knowledge you may not possess yet.
Meaning, if you want your paid campaign to deliver satisfying results, you need to know your audience inside out and how to target it in the most productive way.
Secondly, it just doesn't make sense, does it?
Paying for something that you can have for free is not a part of human nature, correct?
So, let's keep your blogging budget intact and see how you can get traffic to your website free!
Again, none of the following strategies will cost you a cent.
However, most of them are time-consuming and time is a luxury the majority of bloggers simply don't have.
In case you do, I'll say try them all.
But if don't, the best advice I can give you is to choose wisely!
Actually, this one is a deal-breaker.
The biggest sources of organic traffic to any blog are the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) - always have been, always will be!
Contrary to the newbie blogger's belief system, they won't just start sending you tons of visitors simply because your website exists.
No, if you want your content to be indexed and, most importantly, to rank high, you'll have to optimize it properly.
Make no mistake, if you don't understand how SEO works and how to use it to the fullest of its abilities, your organic traffic won't get off the ground.
That being said, mastering SEO is a long and complicated process.
If the thought of it is overwhelming you, don't sweat it - there are courses that will teach you everything you need to know.

Not doing proper keyword research is one of the most common blogging mistakes almost every newbie makes.
Here is the deal:
In order to rank on Google, you need to carefully research the word or a phrase you want to write about.
Of course, being smart with the keyword you're going to target doesn't guarantee that you'll grab the top spot, but it's a good start.
Some keywords are easier to rank for than others. And even if you constantly go for the less competitive ones, not all of your content will reach Google's first page.
Still, doing keyword research the right way will definitely improve the odds of that happening.
As a rule of thumb, the short-tail keywords (also called head keywords) have the highest search volume online.
Meaning, if you manage to rank for such keyword, you'll never be short on free traffic.
However, they also happen to be the most difficult keywords to rank for.
Unless you already have high DA (Domain Authority), thousands of backlinks, and Google's trust, you should target long-tail keywords instead.
It's one thing that they can bring you some organic traffic until your website gains a stronger presence online. Plus, a bit of traffic is better than no traffic at all, right?
But what you should really care about is that the long-tail keywords have a high conversion rate.
Simply said, they will increase your chance to make money even when your audience is still relatively small.

Still, that won't make any difference if you're refusing to give your readers what they are looking for.

To clarify, by update I mean update - don't just mess around!
Make those posts longer, include more images, interlink them with other relevant content, etc.
First thing first, let's make sure that there will be no confusion here:
By all means, updating your work is not enough.
Sooner or later, your articles will become old content.
I mean, if your first blog post was published 5 years ago, it's not really that fresh anymore, is it?
OK, so how can you deal with that?
Well, you should republish your content with a new publishing date.
Before you do that, though, you'll have to make sure that your "new" old article is really new:
For instance, delete the previous images and replace them with new screenshots. Add more subheadings. Refresh the meta description...

However, only when they are high-quality!
So, if you don't have the necessary experience or skills to create infographics, you should hire a professional to do them for you.
Basically, not all of your blog topics will be suitable for a round-up article.
Even more, it's not a great idea to focus solely on this form of content in my opinion.
But now and then, you should do a round-up post as a part of your blogging strategy.
These type of articles have the potential to skyrocket your traffic and to keep sending you visitors again and again.
Once your post is ready (and even before that), reach out to the people/brands that made it to the list.
If they like your work, they will most likely share it with their audience and even may link back to your article.
No matter the niche you've chosen, you're must be using affiliate marketing to monetize your site, correct?
Furthermore, you probably have at least a couple of product reviews written so far.
Are you reaching to the brands that you're recommending to your readers?
Because if you're not, you're missing out on opportunities for free traffic.
Every time you blog about a product that you love, do your best to connect with the people behind it.

Considering the testimonials are beneficial for both parties involved, your testimonial will be published with a link back to your blog.

I find it hard to believe - it doesn't take a lot of time to read an article and write down your thoughts about it.
To make sure that your comment will be approved, it better be well-thought, truthful, and adding value to the topic.
Stuff like "Thanks, great post" won't ever work in your traffic's favor!
Quite frankly, it's understandable if you haven't had the time for guest blogging yet.
There is always so much to do on your own site, who has the hours to write for somebody else?
While that's completely true, maybe you should try harder and make some room in your day.
If you manage to secure a guest blogging spot on a site that has decent traffic, that will pay out in the long run for your site as well.
The other way around works too - be open to people who express a desire to write for your blog.
It's called "repurposing content".
Meaning, you'll take one form of content (blog post) and you'll turn it into a different one (video).

Here are a couple of points to keep in mind:

Maybe most of the people still believe that the platform is mainly used to find a job and that's no longer the case.
When you look closely, you'll see that 80% of its users belong to some kind of group.
Subsequently, if you do a bit of research, you can easily find a group that is interested in the type of content you're producing.
Put some efforts to engage that audience and it will find its way to your blog!
A lot of folks are going in that direction - and I think that you should seriously consider joining them.
Personally, I love spending time reading Medium as well - tons of awesome content is being published daily.
But if you want to use it strictly as a source of free traffic, it's not that difficult to do it:
Create and post a high-quality article that contains a link to a primary post on your site, simple as that!
Similarly to Reddit, Quora doesn't appreciate spammers.
The only way to drive traffic from this platform is to really help its users.
Find the time to answer questions within your expertise.
While doing so, link a keyword to a blog post and you'll get your traffic if the readers find your content useful.
Again, Quora won't work if your answers are half-baked and quickly patched up, so keep that in mind.
Finally, it's time to talk about my favorite source of traffic!
In short, if you're not using Pinterest to expand your audience, you're doing it all wrong.
Firstly, because you can start getting page views pretty fast - that's how awesome Pinterest is!
Secondly, the platform is a search engine - and your content can rank on it much easier than on Google.
Lastly, a well-designed and correctly keyworded pin has the power to bring you traffic for years to come!
Ain't that the easiest of all the free ways to drive traffic to your website...
All that you need to do to see instant traffic is to send an email to your list.
Of course, that will be if you're working on building an email list in the first place.
By the way, if you don't look at email marketing as a priority, you're in the wrong business.
Because every blogger/affiliate/marketer knows - the money is in the list!
OK, this may not be suitable for you if you're a newbie blogger.
But if you have experience already, creating a free online course shouldn't be that hard to achieve.
People love free stuff, especially if it brings enormous value to the table.
And they will appreciate you if deliver big time!
While you work on your free course, don't forget to add links that will send your readers back to relevant content on your site.
It's not a secret that the majority of Internet users are accessing the web through their mobile devices.
So you have to make sure that your blog won't affect their experience.
The fastest way to lose tons of traffic is to install a website theme that is not mobile responsive.
Maybe it's hard to believe, but a lot of bloggers don't take that into consideration!
Honestly, I shouldn't even have to mention that!
Above all, a slow website will impact negatively your traffic in a way not many other factors can.
Unless your blog loads in a couple of seconds, don't expect to ever enjoy thousands of page views.
There are a lot of things you can do to improve your site speed.
For instance, optimize your images, keep the number of plugins down, have a superb blog hosting service, etc.

Long story short, it doesn't matter if you have the best content ever written.
No many people will get to read it unless there is a clickbait involved.
Before you even start typing your new article, you'll need to come up with an inciting headline first.
Power words, pain points, curiosity - use them as much as you can if you want to draw massive online attention.
In my opinion, writing a powerful headline is an art of its own.
Keep practicing and you'll master it eventually!
