Before We Start With The Cost Of Blogging

Generally, there is tons of information online regarding how much does it cost to build a blog.  Likewise, plenty of articles will tell you that you can start one without paying a single cent and that's true.

However, today we'll have a look at the approximate expenditures that go into sustaining money-making website that could potentially become the source of a full-time online income.

That being said, I'm gonna share with you my personal expenses - everything that I've already paid and I'm still paying in order to make money online through this website.

To clarify, depending on the kind of business you're interested to have, your expenses most likely are going to be different.

Still, you'll be able to get a pretty clear idea about what's coming your way!

How Much Does It Cost To Build a Blog - Required Payments

In my opinion, the most efficient way to illustrate my site's expenses is to go walk you through the whole process of creating Cash Embrace.

Meaning, I'll show you how and why I made all my choices about hosting, website theme, plugins, etc.  And how much I paid for all these blogging tools and resources.

Now, my site is in the make money online niche.  However, don't get confused if your own niche is in a completely different direction.

Overall, most of my blogging stuff can be put in good use no matter the topic you've chosen to write about.

1) Domain Name - $13,95/Year

Way back, when I started to think about what my domain name will look like, there was one specific advice from plenty of fellow bloggers that I used to hear over and over again.

Basically, the common opinion was that the domain name is not something that I should waste too much time on.  And that it wouldn't make or break my business.

Personally, I agree and disagree with that statement at the same time.

For instance, Google and Twitter are words that don't make a lot of sense.  Yet, somehow, is there a person who doesn't use or at least know about them?

Which brings me to why I really believe that choosing your domain name is actually important and you should rush it:

Above all, your domain name will also be the name of your website.  Subsequently, it will become your brand.

That being said, the best advice I can give you here is to go for a name that's brandable, easy to pronounce (and remember!), and best represents what your business is all about.

Even more, don't buy it just yet - some hosting services will let you have it for free!

Speaking off...

2) Web Hosting Service - $0

First and foremost, just because I'm not paying anything for hosting, that doesn't mean that my site is using a free blogging platform.

Since we already agreed that we're gonna talk about money making website, don't even think about choosing a free platform.  As a business owner, you need to have full control of your blog and you won't have that if you jump on WordPress.com or Blogger to name just a few.

So, what hosting provider is your best option?

Actually, this question is not that easy to answer.  But after a long time spent in research and conversations with hundreds of bloggers, there are 2 names that get recommended the most - BlueHost and BigScoots.

If you go with BlueHost, you'll be able to pay as little as $3,95/month for hosting and they'll provide you with a domain name for free.

On another hand, BigScoots costs $3,55/month and their tech support is the best one you can find currently online.

Now, what about the option I'm using and how come I'm having a top-notch hosting for free?

It's pretty simple actually and the answer is Wealthy Affiliate.

To clarify, as a member of this online teaching platform I'm provided with blogging, online business, and affiliate marketing education (SEO, content marketing, Social Media, driving traffic...).  Plus, the hosting and the keywords research tool are completely for free as well.

3) Website Theme - $19/Month

Truth to be told, the $19/month are not paying just for my theme.  Because this cash is going for the all-in-one blogging toolbox called Thrive Themes Membership.  But I'll get back to this in a second.

Quite frankly, I wasted too much time on themes in my early blogging days.  As a result, I now consider spending hours customizing a free theme one of the biggest blogging mistakes ever.

Sooner or later, you'll have to buy a paid theme if you're serious about your business.  There is just no way around that!

For starters, if what you're prepared to pay for is just the theme itself, I believe that these 2 choices would never disappoint you - Thrive Themes and Elegant Themes.

Although, considering the Divi theme, for example, is about $90/year, getting everything else that you most likely will need can get really pricey.

So, the Thrive Themes Membership makes much more sense, doesn't?

Firstly, it really has all the blogging toys to help you become a pro blogger and bring your business to a whole new level.  Especially if building your email list as fast as possible is your number one goal - it's what Thrive is closely focused on.

Secondly, it's a pretty sweet deal compared to how much you'll have to pay if you buy blogging tools separately.

Personally, I even switched to the yearly Thrive Membership and I manage to get the price down with 20%!

If you want to learn everything Thrive has to offer, you can find it here.

4) Email Service Provider - $29/Month

Hopefully, all the true fans of MailChimp won't get pissed at me...

I gave it a try for a while and it was a fine email service to start with.

However, as you gain more experience and develop your blogging business further, having the chance to do the best email campaigns possible will crawl very high on your list.

It goes without saying, to achieve that you'll need the industry leader on your side.

In my opinion, that's ConvertKit and I gladly pay them $29 each month in exchange for everything they allow me to do.

Basically, this email provider is easy to use, offers impeccable services, and even a free trial!

And you don't have to take my word for it - just check out what its customers have to say in their reviews.

5) Plugins, Tools, Extra Resources - Hard To Say

Well, it is!  Actually, it's almost impossible to give you a real number considering I try, test, and change plenty of those quite regularly.

At least, I can give you the prices of all the blogging extras I'm using right now!

Here, essential, but free plugins like Yoast SEO won't get mentioned.  We're going to talk just about the ones that will affect how much does it cost to build a blog.

  • Social Warfare Pro - $29/year - my preferred choice of a Social Sharing plugin, really helpful if you drive the majority of your traffic from Pinterest
  • Tailwind - offers a free trial - automate my pinning sessions and upload my pins at the time Pinterest's users are the most active
  • Thirsty Affiliates Pro - $49/Year - a plugin that will cloak your affiliate link and make they look pretty
  • Milo Tree - $9/Month - it's all about grabbing new followers on Pinterest without ever leaving your site

How Much Does It Cost To Build a Blog - Education

Finally, time to see what you'll have to learn and how much you'll have to pay to crack the blogging code.

Nowadays, there is tons of info online regarding how to start your blogging journey, your first steps, and everything that goes into the process.

However, a lot of this info contradicts itself, making it hard to decide which blogging "guru" you can actually trust.

So, have a look at my most recommended sources of blogging education:

1) Wealthy Affiliate

Quite frankly, I knew that I won't be able to do the blogging thing completely on my own. On top of that, I wanted to make sure that I won't start it on the wrong foot.

Even more, I needed training that will have all the lessons in one place and will walk me through all of them step-by-step.

And that's how I found Wealthy Affiliate.  Thanks to this platform, currently I get to blog for a living less than a year after joining it.

If that's something that you want to see yourself doing as well, then you can start today - Wealthy Affiliate is FREE to join!

2) Digital Marketing Career Blueprint - $97/Month

First and foremost, you probably find this one a bit expensive.

Maybe it is, but here the price is totally worth it.

Created by Seth Hymes, this course will show you all the tips, tricks, and insights on how to make a living from content marketing.

That being said, the reason why Digital Marketing is selling for that price is that it will get you a guaranteed job as soon as you finish the course.

Similarly to any other kind of business, you can't expect to grow a powerful brand for a few cents.
